we had station games for like 1hr, which proved to be quite fun actually, though im not exactly the one playing.
i thought it would be very hard to control the kids and convey to them the rules and regulations of the game, and my prediction indeed turned out to be true, but i realised Beryl is VERY GOOD at engaging them and giving then instructions to follow.
thus, they were quite cooperative, even to the extent of being interested and motivated to win at the end. They were actually quite organized and obedient to follow instructions and carry out the station games well.
Since im in charge of chinese, i shall make some comments on my thoughts of the children answering the 3 questions and i set.
Basically, the first is super easy thus all who tried earned the full one mark. As for level two question which tests on han4 yu3 pin1 yin1, i see the common problems surface, such as whether there is a 'h' or a 'g' in 生。some were even unable to read 陌 mo4
As for sentence structure (造句)2 grps attempted but both were unable to give a full answer, in other words, they werent able to explain the first part of the answer.
Nevertheless, it was truly enjoyable and i realised that time past by very fast when we enjoy ourselves. From beryl's reflection i also saw that the kids themselves enjoyed it too ;D
thus i hope we can have more of such games in future, since it is not very difficult and time- wasting to prepare it either.
For the second part of the visit, i was back to teaching Ron.
he failed his maths ;(( -- that's what i was told but i didnt get a chance to see his paper
i think i really should be more serious in teaching him and make sure he really understands what im talking about and actually be able to APPLY it.
an auntie volunteer told me that Ron is poorer at problem sums and model drawing which caused him his marks, so i began my first time teaching him, or rather, revising with him on how to draw models based on question, and use it to solve for the answers.
the first question i saw requires model drawing, but the minute i finished reading it, i thought of solving it by algebra. I realised that after so many years away from using models, i have indeed forgotten quite an amount of it. Fortunately, i was still able to teach and help him. after much recalling based on the fact that i actually loved and excelled in model-drawing during my primary school days ;D
the most crucial problem lies with using the model to solve questions. Ron was unable to spot exactly how to go about the steps in finding the unknown from the model. As such, he will need more practice to help him be comfortable in solving the questions.
Sadly the tutoring session was not really productive as Ron was not being serious but was going around, figeting and looking at friends, and we managed only to revise about 4 questions.
i guess i should learn to apply whatever we have discussed in the meetings to help Ron stay in focus.
